Achieve strong, reliable joints in heavy timber construction with our professional-grade M10 Hex Head Coach Screws. Also known as lag bolts or lag screws, these heavy-duty fasteners are the essential choice for projects demanding exceptional strength and holding power. They are designed for ease of use and long-term durability, making them a staple for both professional tradespeople and serious DIY enthusiasts across the UK.
Whether you're building a robust decking frame, landscaping with railway sleepers, or undertaking structural timber work, our M10 coach screws provide the secure fixing you can depend on.
Key Features & Benefits:
-
High-Torque Hex Head: The classic hexagon head is designed for a non-slip grip with a standard 17mm spanner or socket, allowing for high torque application and ensuring a fast, easy, and secure installation without the risk of stripping the head.
-
Corrosion Resistant Finish: Each screw is protected by a Bright Zinc Plated (BZP) finish, providing excellent resistance to corrosion and rust. This ensures long-lasting performance and a clean appearance for both interior and sheltered exterior projects.
-
Aggressive Coarse Thread: The deep, coarse wood thread is engineered to bite aggressively into both softwood and hardwood. This design provides exceptional grip and superior pull-out resistance, creating strong joints that will not loosen over time.
-
DIN 571 Certified Quality: Manufactured to the internationally recognised DIN 571 standard, our coach screws guarantee consistent dimensional accuracy, material strength, and reliable performance, giving you complete confidence in every fixing.
Common Applications:
Our M10 coach screws are incredibly versatile and are the ideal fixing solution for a wide range of heavy-duty applications, including:
-
Decking and veranda subframes
-
Securing railway sleepers for garden landscaping
-
All types of timber framing and structural joinery
-
Fixing fence posts and heavy-duty panels
-
Attaching gate posts, hinges, and ironmongery
-
Assembling pergolas, carports, and garden structures
-
Securing wall plates to masonry (with nylon plugs)
Installation Guide:
For a professional finish and the strongest possible fixing, follow these simple guidelines:
-
Pilot Hole: We recommend drilling a pilot hole to prevent the wood from splitting and to ensure the screw drives in straight. For M10 screws, a 6-7mm pilot hole is suitable for most softwoods, while a 7-8mm hole is recommended for hardwoods.
-
Driving: Use a 17mm socket with a ratchet or impact driver, or a 17mm spanner, to drive the screw until the head is firmly seated against the timber surface. Using a washer under the head is recommended to spread the load.
-
Masonry Fixing: To fix timber to brick or concrete, drill a hole to accommodate an M12 nylon wall plug. Insert the plug, align your timber, and drive the M10 coach screw securely into the plug.
