Building a heavy-duty timber structure that needs to withstand the elements? Our M8 Hex Head Coach Screws provide the immense clamping force and reliable grip you need for projects that are built to last.

Engineered for strength and ease of use, these are the go-to fasteners for trade professionals and serious DIYers who demand a secure, long-lasting connection in wood or masonry.

Key Benefits:

  • Effortless High-Torque Driving: The six-sided hexagon head provides a secure, non-slip grip for any standard 13mm spanner or socket set. This allows you to apply significant torque to draw timbers together tightly, achieving a professional, robust connection without the risk of stripping the head.

  • Superior Load-Bearing Strength: Engineered from high-tensile steel with a deep, coarse thread, these screws are designed for heavy-duty applications. They provide exceptional resistance to pull-out forces, making them the ideal choice for structural joints in decking frames, pergolas, fence posts, and timber framing.

  • Enhanced Corrosion Resistance: A bright zinc-plated (BZP) finish provides a protective barrier against rust and corrosion. This makes our coach screws suitable for a wide range of outdoor projects, including fences, gates, and garden structures, ensuring the integrity and appearance of your work for years to come. (Note: For coastal areas or applications in constant contact with wet ground, stainless steel or hot-dip galvanised fasteners may be more suitable).

Common Applications:

  • Decking & Joists: Securely fasten subframe components, ledger boards, and support posts.

  • Fencing & Gates: Mount posts, rails, and heavy-duty ironmongery with confidence.

  • Landscaping: Ideal for joining railway sleepers in retaining walls, garden steps, and raised beds.

  • Structural Timber: Perfect for general construction, carpentry, and joining large timbers.

  • Masonry Fixing: Use with nylon wall plug for a secure anchor into brick, block, or concrete.

Simple Installation Guide:

  1. Select Pilot Hole: For the best results and to prevent the wood from splitting, pre-drilling is essential. Use a 4-6mm wood drill bit. For softwoods like pine, a 4mm bit is suitable; for hardwoods like oak, use a 6mm bit.

  2. Drill the Hole: Drill a pilot hole to a depth at least equal to the length of the screw. This clears a path and ensures the screw can be driven in fully without excessive force.

  3. Drive Securely: Use a 13mm spanner or a socket wrench for a firm, controlled drive. To prevent the screw head from sinking into softer woods and to distribute the load more evenly, we recommend placing an M8 washer (sold separately) under the head before tightening.
